Responsibilities

Data Governance & Quality

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the Data Governance Framework, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion the development and adoption of data standards, taxonomies, and metadata practices across BDI departments.
  • Coordinate data stewardship activities, guiding stewards and custodians in their roles.
  • Oversee data lifecycle management, ensuring ethical, legal, and high-integrity handling of data from acquisition to disposal.
  • Conduct data quality assessments and support the resolution of data integrity issues.

Governance & Compliance

  • Support institutional governance by documenting policies and procedures for information handling and organizational risk.
  • Conduct audits and internal reviews to monitor compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
  • Lead preparation for external audits and inspections related to data management and security.
  • Maintain and update BDI’s compliance registers, risk logs, and policy documentation.

Risk Management

  • Identify and assess risks related to data use, privacy, and governance; propose mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Collaborate with IT, legal, and data teams to assess and respond to cybersecurity and data protection risks.
  • Monitor emerging risks and evolving legal landscapes to recommend policy updates.

Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver training programs to raise awareness of data governance, data protection, and compliance practices.
  • Act as a liaison and trusted advisor for departments on matters of data use, retention, sharing, and classification.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with data owners, analysts, researchers, and IT teams to integrate governance into day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborate with external partners, public health bodies, and research entities to ensure secure and compliant data sharing.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Management, Data Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing data governance or compliance frameworks.

 

Preferred:

  • 3–5 years of experience in governance, risk, compliance, or data governance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection legislation and risk management frameworks.
  • Certifications such as CIPP/E, CISA, CRISC, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in or with public sector organizations, research institutes, or healthcare data environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data management platforms and GRC tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, with an ability to translate complex regulatory concepts into practical policies.
  • Project management and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
